The Importance Of A Well-Balanced Diet To Healthy Gut Bacteria: Implications To Health and Well Being Hello everyone. I watched a great documentary on the ABC science show Catalyst over the recent weekend (Jan 16, 2016). The show was the second part of the two part series entitled, "Gut Reaction". The links to these two documentaries from their Catalyst archive are provided below. Gut Reaction Part 1 http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/4067184.htm Gut Reaction Part 2 http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/4070977.htm I totally recommend these for you to watch. This is relatively new research and it is revealing new insight into the health benefits of a sound, well-balanced diet that provides necessary roughage (dietary fiber) to support the multiple functions of the bacteria that grow and function in our large intestine. The bacteria, when the right type are allowed to exist and function, produce a diverse array of metabolites that are released to the local intestinal environment, as well as diffuse into the blood and circulate throughout the body, positively influencing the function of a diverse number of our physiological systems. The broad positive impact of a healthy colon, which requires a healthy diet, will astound you. I will work on developing a new public lecture for either late February or early March, which will focus on nutrition, as well as emphasize the importance of this ground breaking research. |
