Seymour Centre

The Bathurst Seymour Centre is a community service day care facility to support local community senior citizens, and their carers, by providing stimulating activities that are designed to enhance the well-being and quality of life of participants.

The exercise program provided at this facility is structured on chair-based activities/movement to improve muscle and joint function, while limiting risk of injury.  The long term goal of the program is to eventually increase the musculoskeletal conditioning of the participants, which in turn fosters increased movement independence during activities of daily living, and the related mental health benefits that this also stimulates.

Research is included in this program through the measurements of body weight, height, body composition (hand-held bio-electrical impedance), balance, and rate of muscle force development for leg and upper body muscle contractions performed on a force plate.
